Costly business insurance mistakes we fix
These only show up at claim time. An advisor checks for every one of them before recommending a plan.
Stock and assets under-insured
If assets are insured below value, every claim is reduced in proportion.
No business interruption cover
Property cover pays for damage, not for months of lost income.
Generic group health
Room-rent caps and low limits hurt employees exactly when they need it.
Liability ignored
Product, public and professional liability claims can exceed property losses.
What your advisor checks for you
- Sum insured vs. real asset values
- Business interruption and liability gaps
- Group health limits and maternity
- Marine and transit cover
- Statutory covers like workmen's comp

Know what you're buying
What's covered, and what isn't
We explain the fine print before you buy, not after you claim.
Usually covered
- Damage to buildings, machinery, furniture and stock from fire, lightning and explosion
- Floods, storms, cyclones and (as an add-on) earthquake
- Burglary and theft of business property
- Goods damaged or lost in transit
- Hospitalisation of employees and their families under group health
- Legal liability for injury or damage to customers and the public
- Compensation to employees injured at work, as required by law
- Loss of profit while you recover from an insured event (business interruption add-on)
Usually not covered
- Normal wear and tear, rust and gradual deterioration
- Deliberate or wilful damage by the business or its owners
- War, nuclear risks and similar standard exclusions
- Fines, penalties and liabilities you've taken on only by contract
- Claims or incidents you knew about before the policy started
- Under-insurance, if assets are insured for less than their value, claims are reduced proportionately
Coverage varies by insurer and plan. Always check the policy wording, we'll walk you through it.

FAQs
Business Insurance questions, answered
What insurance does a small business in India need?
Most businesses start with fire and property cover for their premises and stock, group health for employees, and liability cover if they deal with customers or the public. Your industry, contracts and size decide what else you need, we'll help you prioritise.
Is any business insurance compulsory?
Some covers are required by law: third-party insurance for every company vehicle, and a Public Liability Act policy if you handle hazardous substances. Lenders, landlords and clients may also require certain covers in their contracts.
How is the premium for business insurance worked out?
It depends on what you insure and its value, your industry and location, safety measures like fire protection, your claims history and the deductibles you choose. Better risk information usually means better terms.
What happens if I'm under-insured?
Under the average clause, if your assets are insured for less than their real value, the insurer pays only a proportion of each claim. Regular valuation of buildings, machinery and stock avoids this.
Can a small team get group health insurance?
Yes. Many insurers offer group health for small teams, starting from as few as [X] employees. It is often cheaper per person than individual plans and often covers pre-existing conditions from day one.
What are Bharat Sookshma and Bharat Laghu Udyam Suraksha?
They are standard IRDAI property policies for micro and small enterprises, covering fire and allied perils for buildings, machinery and stock. The right one depends on the total value of your assets.
Can you review our existing business policies?
Yes. Share your current policies and we'll check for gaps, overlaps, under-insurance and clauses that could hurt you at claim time, free of charge.
How is PolicyBench paid? Do I pay a fee?
You pay no fee to us. Our advisors are licensed insurance agents, and when you buy a policy through us the insurer pays us a commission set under IRDAI rules. For plans from insurers we are not appointed by, we still explain your options and you buy directly from that insurer.
